Palacete Ramón y Cajal

In the publishing work “Arquitectura de Madrid” edited in November 2003 by Official School of Architects in Madrid, the palacete located in the Alfonso XII Street nº 64, reference number 205, details the intrinsic value of the building. From the available information, is verified that the reconstruction Project of Palacete by the distinguished Don Santiago Ramon y Cajal was made for the architect Don Julio Martinez-Zapata in 1912.

Subsequently in July of 1918 the architect Don Ricardo Garcia Guereta made an expansion work that culminated in 1921. The historic memory details the horizontal and inclined type of structure, made of rolled iron in girders of double “T” and the covers with ordinary tile over a brick board. It was one of the first buildings where the iron was used in floors and roofs that is why the girders made of iron allow keep the current pavements of the houses leveled in perfect condition. According with the general management control of the edification of Madrid city council, the Palacete placed in the Alfonso XII Street nº 64 it is mentioned in the catalog of protected buildings General Plan of Madrid with protection level number one. The palacete also has the following protection: Historic buildings of Madrid village with the 7.801 catalog number and as a singular element protected and a gravestone of Don Santiago Ramon y Cajal on the main facade.

The frontage according to the degree of protection of palacete have to keep it, so the rehabilitation will respect the original structure.
